Daughter of Nettlewhisker and Shadowfern and protagonist of "Forest of Mist". She is a warrior of MistClan who's main goal throughout the series is the overthrow her leader and take charge of her clan in a manner similar to her grandmother, Budstar.

Appearance[]

Red and black sleek furred tortoiseshell she-cat with eyes the color of dried grass. Has a large scar running down her stomach.

She is typically well groomed and takes great pride in her appearance. Always carries herself in a very royal manner. Sits with her head held high and her eyes narrowed to slits.

Personality[]

A know-it-all prick who looks down on everyone. In her mind, she's the only one with a lick of sense in the whole forest. She's a decent hunter and fighter, but far from the best. In order to hide her insecurities about her own abilities, she pretends never to be impressed by anything.

She is frequently dismissive of the opinions of others if they do not coincide with her own. The one exception would be her mate, Wolfstripe, who she sees as her equal life partner, though she'll never say as much. He's the only one she will listen to, even when they might disagree, and the only one who she will ever display any uncertainty in front of.

Despite her attitude, as an adult, she is typically quiet sullen and seeing her vocally angry is rare as she believes it translates to fear. As her mother taught her, she strives to prioritizes grace and poise in all things.

She has an inventive wit and a dry sense of humor which she uses to mock things that she disapproves of. Few of her clanmates have actually had the chance to appreciate this however, as she is incredibly antisocial and rarely shares tongues with anyone other than her mate.

Synopsis[]

Forest of Mist[]

Redkit and her littermates share a nursery den with Wolfkit and Copperkit. When Wolfkit asks which type of prey she prefers, she replies indifferently.

When Nettlewhisker's body is brought back to camp, Robincloud brings her, her mother and littermates a fish the late deputy caught. She approaches her father's body and gives his shoulder a lick, thanking him for the prey.

She later sits with her mother and littermates, looking unimpressed as Cloudstar names Ravenstar as his deputy. When Jaggedstep tries to comfort her, Redkit rejects him and edges closer to her mother.

After the next gathering, Redkit is furious that Cloudstar would return the territory Nettlewhisker gave his life to win. She pressed herself closer to her mother and mentions this, but Shadowfern says that Cloudstar can do whatever he wants, being Clan leader. Her brother Pinekit insists that they will get the territory back and kill any IceClan warrior that stops them once he's leader. Maplekit reminds him that he wants to lead as medicine cat. Redkit points out that medicine cats don't lead and ignore her brothers as they start fighting. When Jaggedstep brings them prey, she starts eating while her brothers are to talk.

A few moons later, she wakes up to see snow. The other kits go out to play 'Defend the Border', but she returns to the nursery after realizing that the teams aren't fair. Inside the nursery, Pinekit is sick. She asks him if he is alright and he replies that tomorrow will be warmer.

The next day she wakes to find Pinekit dead. She tells Maplekit that they will rule the clan as leader and deputy, without Pinekit. After several more days, prey grows scarce and cats start getting sick. Redkit manages to evade Shadowfern and runs out of the nursery. There is a blizzard outside and Wildheart appears to warm her, telling her the story of a spirit called 'the Mother' that causes freezing weather wherever she walks due to dying in a snow storm.

A few mornings later, she wakes to find Maplekit gone, her mother refusing to say what had happened to him. A quarter moon later, it becomes warmer and she sees flowers for the first time. When Wolfkit awakens, she tells him that Cloudstar is due to make her an apprentice. Sootkit and Timberkit are made apprentices at the same time.

Cloudstar makes him Redpaw's mentor, but Redpaw refuses him, insisting that her mentor be Wildheart. Cloudstar eventually agrees after Wildheart himself offers to mentor her, but decides to punish her by making her clean the ticks off all the elders.

Relationships[]

Mate: Wolfstripe

Appearance: muscular, short haired brown tabby tom with amber eyes.
How they met: Nettlewhisker forced Redclaw to go hunting, but since there were foxes lurking in the woods at the time, he assigned Wolfstripe to go with her. Wolfstripe had knowledge of her reputation, but had rarely seen her up to that point since she's very reclusive.
Personality: Compassionate friend to all (assuming they're in his clan). He doesn't have much ambition and would be perfectly happy just to go to sleep every night with a full stomach and lot of friends. Does his best to lend a hand in his friend's troubles, though involving himself sometimes creates trouble for him. Tries to be broad minded because he assumes himself to be fairly ignorant, though he has a limit and like most doesn't take well to being put down. He is very normally very somber and doesn't feel the need to speak in social situations though he doesn't mind listening or being present.
Relationship: One of the few cats not in her immediate family that she cares about and who cares about her. He becomes leader after the death of Cloudstar and though he doesn't pick her as his deputy, she ends up becoming leader after he dies mysteriously. During Wolfstar's reign, she acts almost like his second deputy. He can sometimes be too forgiving so she balances him out with her stricter attitude, knowledge of strategy and speaking skills. They sometimes fight, but for the most part their relationship is very loving.

Mentor: Ravenheart

Appearance: slender, jet black tom with narrow eyes.
How they met: Ravenheart knew he would be Redkit's mentor a few months before she was apprenticed and visited the nursery once or twice to see her. Before that he would occasionally see her sitting with her brothers when their mother allowed them to step out of the nursery.
Personality: Quiet and serious minded cat who has trouble empathizing with others. He takes the warrior code very seriously and is strict against the frivolous youth.
Relationship: Although he dislikes the moments when she talks back as much as everybody else he admires her etiquette and intelligence as well as the moment where she seems more mature than the other cats her age. Redclaw didn't like him when she was an apprentice, but by the time she has become an adult, he's one of the few cats in genuinely respects and sees as somewhat of a father figure.

Other- She was also occasionally mentored by Cloudstar and her brother's mentor, Wildheart.

Apprentice: Applefall

Appearance: soft furred golden tabby she-cat with bright golden eyes.
How the met: At the apprentice ceremony.
Personality: Very self-centered and full of herself, she is similar to Redclaw in many respects. However, she is far more physically aggressive and loves being in the spotlight.
Relationship: Considered a prodigy at an early age she considered herself too good for Redclaw who's only exceptional skill in her eyes was climbing. She is very popular at first, but loses almost everyone after an accident in which she loses half her tail and one of her hindpaws. After her accident, she comes more humble, but Redclaw is not as easy to let their previous animosity go because she thinks Applepaw's new attitude is more out of necessity and not what she feels in her heart.

Mother: Shadowfern

Appearance: tortoiseshell she-cat with amber eyes.
Personality: Very ladylike and well spoken. She views her family's social status as very important and takes great care in the preservation of their reputation. She was born without any status and is proud of everything she's done to get where she is, impressing the former leader and being arranged to be mates with her eldest kit.
Relationship: Very loving mother though she has high expectations and doesn't like being disappointed. Redclaw loves her dearly and visits her often after she joins the elders den.

Father: Nettlewhisker

Appearance: gray tabby with white underbelly and pale green eyes.
Personality: Serious-minded with a strong sense of duty. In his youth, he was frivolous and mischievous and still can privately, when he's not acting as clan deputy.
Relationship: They fought a lot because of Redclaw's tendency not to do as much work as she should. Ultimately he always acted in her best interests and there never ceased to be love between them. Redclaw would typically be obedient though sometimes it took a bit of shouting.

Brother: Pricklenose

Appearance: black tom with pale yellow eyes.
Personality: Always very mischievous and teasing though he knows when to be serious as well and has a strong sense of duty.
Relationship: Loving towards his sister and is one of the few who can get away with teasing her. She allows him to take charge when they're together, something she won't do with anyone else her age.

Brother: Maplekit [deceased]

Appearance: ginger tom with hazel eyes.
Personality: Sensitive kit who dreamt of being a medicine cat.
Relationship: Redclaw loved him dearly and was protective during his weaker moments.

Maternal Cousin: Sootfeather

Appearance: long furred black she-cat with pale yellow eyes.
Personality: Motherly and caring towards Wolfstripe as they were kithood friends and have known each other most of their lives. Unlike him she is very ambitious and is always thinking about what she can do to impress her clanmates. She’s a quick runner and works as a herb runner (medicine cat’s assistant).
Relationship: Hates Redclaw and her indignant attitude. Thinks she is unworthy of her high social status. Redclaw sees her assimple minded and doesn’t pay her much attention.

Maternal Grandmother: Mottlestorm

Appearance: tortoiseshell, though nearly black she-cat with hazel.
Personality: Has a penchant towards story-telling and history, she is very popular with kits.
Relationship: Loving towards Redclaw and teaches her clan history whenever she comes to clean the elders' bedding.

Paternal Grandmother: Budstar [deceased]

Appearance: brownish gray scottish fold with hazel eyes.
Personality: Borderline sociopath and highly intelligent master tactician. Protected her clanmates as their leader, not out of fondness for them, but because of her own personal pride. In her youth she was highly ambitious, but with an optimistic personality. Her happy-go-lucky attitude mellowed as she got older. She became more quiet and calculating, enjoying playing mind games and proposing challenges to her fellow warriors.
Relationship: She died before Redclaw was born, but they met during Redclaw's leadership ceremony and became good friends in StarClan.

Paternal Grandfather: Stormbranch/Collins [deceased]

Appearance: gray tabby with white underbelly and pale green eyes. Former rogue who joined the clan.
Personality: Playful, yet manipulative former rogue who will always take advantage of others or situations if he thinks he can get away with it.
Relationship: Died before before Redcaw was born, but they met after Redclaw joined StarClan and over time developed friendship.

She doesn't really like kits so she didn't have any which always upset Wolfstripe.

Mothsnap

Appearance: light brown, disheveled tabby tom with cream colored underbelly and amber, misaligned eyes. Has a large tongue which usually hangs from his mouth.
Personality: Extraordinarily simple minded, he finds even the simplest things very difficult to understand. Must often have things repeated to him, and even then he is prone to forgetting. He is also very naive and can be easily tricked by almost anyone. He is forever optimistic and endlessly amiable. He loves growing herbs, digging for mushrooms and eating insects.
Relationship: Redclaw finds his simplicity endearing and spends a lot of time alone with him in the forest.
